Author pages

[edit]

Regarding Author:Thomas de Quincey, see Help:Author pages (e.g.). Our standard section heading is "Works". If there are enough of specific kinds in several categories, then we can use subheadings, but in this instance, since they're all essays, no subheading is necessary. --EncycloPetey (talk) 13:07, 30 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

The problem I see is that De Quincey also has some works of fiction, including a novel and couple of short stories (one of them alredy uploaded). I separated the section "Works" into "Essays" and "Fiction". Maybe it doesn't merit a separation, but in that case, shouldn't "Fiction" be merged back into "Works"? If we had listings there with both essays and fiction, then we would make use of subheadings, though we usually prefer sections based on the form rather than the genre. So for other authors, we have made use of headings like Novels, Plays, Essays, Poetry, but generally have not used headings such as Fiction. A work of fiction could be a novel, a short story, a poem, or a play, and standard library categorization favors novel, short story, play, etc. over other kinds of categorization.
So, if you would would like to subcategorize, then I recommend subheadings such as "Novels" and "Short stories" over "Fiction". But these would be level-3 subheadings under "Works", not in place of that heading. --EncycloPetey (talk) 14:17, 30 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
I see. I think I'll use "Novels and short stories" as in Author:Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Thanks for the help, and let me know if you see something else that doesn't follow the site standards. St. Stephen (talk) 14:33, 30 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Also please note that all works hosted here must have a license template added at the bottom. --EncycloPetey (talk) 13:08, 30 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Of course, my bad. Thanks for pointing it out! St. Stephen (talk) 14:04, 30 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
