Chapter with arabic numerals not roman numerals

[edit]

Hi. The community has set a style a while ago that all new works are to be set using arabic numerals, rather than roman numerals. I have moved and updated the recent pages that you transcribed, so things should all be set to continue. — billinghurst sDrewth 03:47, 11 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Semantic templates

[edit]

I love that you made {{Cite}}, just please note that there is some controversy about its use and I think best practice is that it is used when a creative work is being cited as a source, not any time a creative work is mentioned. See MDN, for instance: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Element/cite While I grant there is some controversy about how it is to be used or what constitutes a "citation", cf. https://html.spec.whatwg.org/multipage/text-level-semantics.html#the-cite-element (note that they use an article in Wikipedia as an example citation but not Wikipedia itself!) If you feel like this requires more discussion or consensus, please let me know. Unfortunately, this is one of those times when WHATWG and W3C disagreed and best practice is not clear. :/ —Justin (koavf)TCM 10:39, 16 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Koavf: Thanks for the information. I've looked at both W3C and WHATWG and both sites indicate that this tag may be used if it is "a work that is mentioned in passing". The typical usage example on both sites includes, among others, "My favorite book is <cite>The Reality Dysfunction</cite>" which is hardly citing something as a source. MDN only mentions a conflict between these in terms of whether the author should be included inside the tags. I think using it when a work is mentioned in a running text is within the intended semantics. Alnaling (talk) 10:56, 16 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
I respect if you want to revert. Thanks for talking about it. —Justin (koavf)TCM 02:57, 17 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
