Nice work with Chapter XX for Index:Babbage - Passages from the Life of a Philosopher.djvu. I made a few edits and validated the rest of the chapter. There is a community guideline to remove newlines within paragraphs. Your solution to the dots on page 274 is a good fit given the left justification. I tried a few alternatives in vain, but reverted to your solution. For references, the normal practice is allow them to be numbered put the <references/> or {{smallrefs}} in the footer, not included on the page. See page 275. This allows the transcluded work to collect all the refs at the end of the chapter. This is needed since the pages become merged.
