The Warlord of Mars[edit]

I note that you have marked some of the pages of The Warlord of Mars as problematic. What were the problem(s) on those pages ? -- Beardo (talk) 06:26, 9 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Good morning Beardo, check where the word salensus is then next word starting with O. What is that word in the original text coz I didn't really figure it out. Thank you MEvalyn (talk) 06:40, 9 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello @MEvalyn,
When proofreading The Warlord of Mars, could you please try to do the following:
First, please move the heading to the header. Preferably also match the styling of other pages in the text, although this is less of an issue than just ensuring that the heading isn't in the "page body" section.
Second, please delete the page number from the main body section. This has automatically been populated in the footer.
Third, please rejoin any words that were hyphenated across lines in the original text. Preferably also remove any line breaks so that the text is grouped in paragraphs, see my first revision of Page:The warlord of Mars.djvu/180.
Fourth, please try to match the text as closely as possible, e.g. Kadahra --> Kadabra on Page:The warlord of Mars.djvu/180. When editing, there should be a spellcheck highlighting strange words (names of places/things in particular for this text), which can make it easier to compare to the original text.
Fifth, if a paragraph finishes at the end of a page, please use the {{nop}} template.
If you have any questions about the above, feel free to ask.
Thanks,
TeysaKarlov (talk) 22:37, 10 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
On that name, yes, it does look odd. Both wikipedia and the Project Gutenberg versions have Oll - so that is what I have gone with.
And as TeysaKarlov says, there are various things that you need to watch when proofreading. Beardo (talk) 17:54, 11 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Proofreading[edit]

On Wikisource, marking a page as "Proofread" does not mean that are the words are spelled correctly. It means that:

You have brought the page to the best condition you can where the text matches the scan and basic formatting is done, and are when you are reasonably happy with it. A Proofread page is ready for display to the casual reader—even if it has little errors in it. (See Help:Page status)

In looking at the work you've done on Of Human Bondage, I found many, many issues with pages you marked as "Proofread". Please make sure that header information is in the header, and not part of the main body of the page. Please ensure that chapter numbers are centered where they are centered in the scan. Also make sure that extraneous spaces near punctuation are removed, and that text in small-caps is in small-caps. --EncycloPetey (talk) 04:47, 8 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
