Words split across page boundaries

[edit]

Hi P,TO 19104,

Thank you for your effort to validate Gatsby. Very much appreciated!

However, regarding edits like this and this, and this. We do not move words between pages like that. The purpose of the Page: namespace is to enable comparing the proofread text side by side with the scanned original. When words are moved between pages this is no longer possible. Joinig words happens when pages are transcluded together for presentation. Most pages are then joined together with a single space character. The exception is if the first page ends with a hyphen, when the hyphen is removed and pages are joined without a space character. The net result is that the presentation contains a continuous text with hyphenated words joined across pages. --Xover (talk) 09:17, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Also if the page ends in a hyphen and you want to keep it, you can use {{page end hyphen}} a.k.a. {{peh}}. For more details, see H:HYPHEN. Inductiveloadtalk/contribs 09:52, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Xover, @Inductiveload: Sorry about that! I thought I read somewhere that words (even in the page namespace) were supposed to be conjoined. Thanks for clarifying. P,TO 19104 (talk) 13:01, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Indeed, words hyphenated across line breaks should be conjoined as needed. But not across page breaks (which will conjoined automatically, unless you use {{peh}}). Inductiveloadtalk/contribs 13:05, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
