The Buddha and His Dhamma[edit]

Thanks for introducing me with wikilivre. I knew it is not in public domain as it was first published in 1957 in India. However, When I saw category PD-old-50, I thought i can put it there, so i moved ahead. Now, I will consider it on wikilivre.

But some of his works were published before 1923, I believe they may be in PD in USA, and I can put them on wikisource. What do you think? (Although, his works are not in public domain in India, as he died in 1956, yet we need seven more years for that.) Shivashree (talk) 03:33, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the welcome[edit]

It was nice to be welcomed so quickly. I've done a lot of editing in Wikipedia, but I'm still getting up to speed, here. I've found that the {{Sc}} template is not the same here as it is there. You added a cross-reference in the template documentation that I want to remove, unless anyone else wants to address it. The discussion can be found on the community page. --Bwpach (talk) 22:55, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Same here. Thanks for the speedy welcome. I really do like the fact-oriented nature of wikisource, and I'm particularly interested in things related to Religion, especially religious texts of an encyclopedic nature.

The Evolution of Provincial Finance in British India[edit]

I am afraid that it was published in 1924 or 25. Mistakenly, I considered it published before 1923. What can we do now?

One more book of him Problem of rupee was published in 1923, will it be in PD or not? Ganesh Dhamodkar (talk) 07:21, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

About Quran (Maulana Muhammad Ali )[edit]

Salaam, It seems even the original source has this typo? but FYI, in chapter 33, The allies, reads in arabic Al-Ahzab not Al-ahzah

Return to the top of the page[edit]

Hi Yann,

I'd like to add a "Return to the top of the page." to this speech but I can't figure out how to do it. – Tseno Maximov (talk) 20:49, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the welcome[edit]

I hope you don't mind collecting these welcomes. Then again, they are probably preferable to some of the messages that appear on the average en.wikipedia user's talk page. -- Llywrch (talk) 05:47, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, the welcomes are very welcome. ;o) Yann (talk) 07:50, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Dead Love[edit]

Hey! I was just wondering why you deleted Dead Love - the deletion reason says "beyond scope: unpublished", but it was first published in Once a Week in October of 1862, and then published in the collection A Century of Roundels in 1883, as well as in many collections of his work between then and 1923 up through present day. -- Editor at Largetalk 08:17, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, My mistake, it was replaced with an unpublished short story, and I deleted all instead of reverting. I restored the old version. Yann (talk) 09:27, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ahh, I see. Thank you then :D -- Editor at Largetalk 14:35, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Yann. The section, Author:Mohandas_K._Gandhi#See_also has a red link to Category:Mohandas K. Gandhi, I am not sure how to fix link. Can you check this. If this category does not exist, better to remove it as per wikipedia's See also guidelines. Thanks. --Nvineeth (talk) 15:47, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can you transwiki to Wikilivres? Thanks. Jude (talk) 00:51, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Could you pls share your opinion here, we are not sure about the copyright, but under the Indian copyright laws, the work falls under public domain. Thanks. --Nvineeth (talk) 15:47, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

According to Archive.org, it was published in 1921, so it is PD in USA. Yann (talk) 08:09, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the info, but I could not correlate between the year 1921 and expiry of copyright in US, what is the copyright guideline that you used? --Nvineeth (talk) 08:17, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thanks for uploading the djvu images, I had another doubt. I see that for other djvu pages, ( example ), the OCRed text has been created, but not for the djvu file you have uploaded. Any clue about this? Thanks. --Nvineeth (talk) 11:16, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A bot needs to import the text in Index:Vivekachudamani.djvu. Yann (talk) 17:23, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yann, I imported the OCR text as you requested. I just thought you should know. Let me know if there is anything else you need me to do. --Mattwj2002 (talk) 00:10, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Matt. Yann (talk) 08:56, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much Yann and Mattwj2002. --Nvineeth (talk) 09:56, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Need your opinion[edit]

Hell Yann, can you pls share your opinion on copyrights w:Talk:Ramprasad_Sen/GA2 on Wikipedia, we are not quite sure about this one. ( I see you are more active here, so posted the message here ). Regards, Nvineeth (talk) 16:31, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My Golden Bengal[edit]

I see that you placed the copyright information at My Golden Bengal's original version. Would you mind telling me whether/how the translation is out of copyright? Chronolgy of Mahatma Gandhi's life/India 1934[edit]

Mr. Yann,

The wooden table used by Gandhi at Andipaati Railway Station is with our family. The incident has been recorded in the book: 'Gandhi in Tamilnadu' by Ramasamy, A (2005), Vardahaman Publications, Chennai. Please peruse my article: Mahatma Gandhi's visit to Andipatti in 1934 in Wikipedia Free Encyclopedia. I do not know how to insert the picture of the Welcome Address (available on my computer) read out to Gandhi on behalf of the Andipatti villagers on the 9th February, 1934.

Know of an Indian legislation expert[edit]

Hey Yann. This Official Languages Act, 1963 has been dropped into Transwiki, and it is Indian legislation. Are you aware of anyone who has an interest in such to tag and tidy it? Thx -- billinghurst (talk) 23:42, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am still not sure about its copyright status. To be public domain, it needs to ba an "Act of a Legislature". Otherwise, it will be public domain 60 years after its publication, i.e. in 2024. Yann (talk) 19:15, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It is legislation, which means that it has passed through the required parliamentary processed to be an edict of government. -- billinghurst (talk) 02:56, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've rolled back User:Jesse-Sean's changes to his talk page twice for spamming. Time for something more?--Prosfilaes (talk) 10:31, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Autobiography of a Yogi[edit]

Hello Yann,

The book I am contibuting (chapter 49) is not the book you mentioned. It is the book Autobiography of a Yogi, by Paramhansa Yogananda. And the third edition is in public domain in the USA and in the whole world. Best regards, --Tat Sat (talk) 22:07, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks a lot!

Question about a translation[edit]

Hi Yann, I have a question about a translation of yours. It is Karsenty v. Enderlin-France2. There is a section in it that I want to use on the WP article about the issue, but I can't quite understand what it means. Do you have the French available that I could look at? It is this section:

What effect, the accused recalls the facts, recounts the controversy, said that the MENA accuses the French channel of falsehood, before giving his own analysis and conclusions, that in this context, it describes the first episode of pure fiction, which is also supported by several major personalities of the press and information having seen the rushes in October 2004, he then sets out, on the main stage, in which he found inexplicable inconsistencies and contradictions in the explanations on the agony of the child given by Charles ENDERLIN, that it is wrong, which is tantamount to imputing a simple mistake, and "at the same time," deceives the public, which appears as a euphemistic language; concluding with a question about the reasons for "trying to cover this imposture," Philippe KARSENTY addresses the merits of the topic with vividness of expression that the importance of the issue in question must authorize yet ...

In particular I am trying to find out who said that there were "inexplicable inconsistencies and contradictions in the explanations on the agony of the child given by Charles ENDERLIN." Many thanks, SlimVirgin (talk) 02:11, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks! SlimVirgin (talk) 23:08, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I still don't understand it. Is it the court or is it Karsenty who is accusing Enderlin of contradictions? SlimVirgin (talk) 00:28, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, and . . .[edit]

Good to know you. Can you please sort out whatever you placed on my talk page so that I can understand it? Cheers Bjenks (talk) 12:51, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A Policy Question[edit]

I didn't know who I should ask, and so because you welcomed me to Wikisource, I thought I would ask you. In editing Wikipedia pages, we are encouraged to distinguish between major edits and minor edits. It seems that almost every edit that needs to be made in proofreading is a minor edit, so it is still necessary to indicate hundreds of edits in a row as minor?

Tolstoy[edit]

This has an article about Tolstoy's "What is Art?" on page 311 or thereabouts. Dans Francais. Sherurcij Collaboration of the Week: Author:Khwaja Kamal-ud-Din. 04:01, 21 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you think that we are out of luck for further resolution of the problematic, then you may wish to add Category:Index Validated to the work. billinghurst (talk) 05:38, 21 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mass evaculation of PD-manifesto works to Canadian Wikilivres likely[edit]

Please come to Wikisource:Possible_copyright_violations/Special_discussion_for_pages_tagged_as_PD-manifesto to discuss what to do with works tagged {{PD-manifesto}}. I am also planning a mass evacuation from Chinese Wikisource.--Jusjih (talk) 04:30, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Changing Title of a Page[edit]

I've been working through checking A Boy's Will, the first published book of poetry by Robert Frost, correcting several misspellings along the way.

The Trial by Existence has an incorrect title, showing the word "Trail" in lieu of the correct "Trial" as can be seen in an early copy of the original book or in any of the published collected poetry editions (which I have here and use for double-checking). I've changed the title within the page itself (as can be seen in the page's revision history), but what is the best way to change the article's incorrect version of the title - must an entirely new page be created and the existing page deleted? or can the existing page be corrected directly?

(And once the page's own title has been corrected, I will correct the link given at Part II, which currently also uses the incorrect "Trail" - and will double-check any other pages that link to that poem.

Thanks. Labombarde (talk) 15:01, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Yann, it is possible that I missed an announcement on the changes to Template:Author, could you make one if you haven't and add something to the documentation at the template. Regards, Cygnis insignis (talk) 04:49, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It undertakes a key search of Special:IndexPages. AT this stage the search is pretty rudimentary, however, it is better than nothing. billinghurst (talk) 10:29, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It does precisely nothing for me. What is it supposed to do? Hesperian 10:53, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, as Billinghurst said, it is pretty rudimentary. It uses the page title as a parameter. It works if there are results, but if there is none, it returns everything... :/ Yann (talk) 14:59, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I saw how it could be useful. A similar result, without the page status, is obtained with indexes linked to an author

There are currently fewer results with the new parameter, perhaps caused by my adding more than one author to the Index form's field 'Author'. Cygnis insignis (talk) 11:07, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Single lost page[edit]

Gday. I find Page:TheCollectedWorksOfMahatmaGandhiVolXIV.djvu/2 that is not attached to an index page, and does not seem to have any other pages associated with it. Should it be deleted or moved?
