Your recent additions to Wikisource

[edit]

Hello and thanks very much for your contributions. However, we need some more information about the added works Arbitration Award on Clipperton Island Sovereignty Dispute and Boundary Treaty between the People's Republic of China and the Kingdom of Afghanistan, especially: the translator(s), years of publication of the translations, source of the added translated texts, and their licence, so that we are sure that they are in accordance with the US copyright laws. See also Wikisource:Copyright policy and Help:Copyright. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 21:59, 23 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for reaching out I'll add that now. Dr vulpes (talk) 22:02, 23 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Arbitration Award on Clipperton Island Sovereignty Dispute

[edit]

Where was this translation published? Can it be legally hosted here? We need information about where it came from to determine this.

Regarding your deletion request, we don't delete one translation to host a different one. If multiple translations have been published, we'll host all of them that are in public domain and meet our publication requirements. --EncycloPetey (talk) 23:00, 23 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hey @EncycloPetey, I translated it but after seeing all the work that I would need to do I just didn't feel like going through with the rest of it the process. Dr vulpes (talk) 00:13, 24 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
OK. If a translation is user-created, we put it in the Translations: namespace. But if you do not plan to continue this translation, we can delete it.
However, if you have found a published translation, and it has the same title, you can replace your translation text with the text of the translation you found. --EncycloPetey (talk) 00:15, 24 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Sounds good thanks! Dr vulpes (talk) 00:18, 24 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
There is one problem that needs to be solved if you want to add your own translation. According to Wikisource policy, it is necessary to upload a scan with the original language publication to Commons, proofread the work in the appropriate language Wikisource (Italian in this case) using the proofread extension, and only then it can be translated for the English Wikisource. Unfortunately, I cannot give any advice about adding works to Italian Wikisource, it would be necessary to ask people there. General advice can be found at Help:Adding texts and Help:Proofread. In fact it is really a lot of work and it might be quite difficult for a newbie contributor. So I also strongly recommend to add a published translation which is in the public domain in the United States (applies mostly to translations published until 1928, with some exceptions, see Help:Public domain). It is preferred when such a published text is added here using the proofread extension too (i. e. upload the scan, create the index page and then proofread it page by page). If you needed any help with this, you can ask e. g. at WS:Scriptorium/Help, there is always somebody willing to help. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 01:03, 24 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hello, I have deleted the page for now. If you decide to add a previously published translation and need some help, do not hesitate to ask at WS:Help. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 18:58, 1 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

You did not provide source information for this text. All texts should indicate the source from which the text was obtained. --EncycloPetey (talk) 15:42, 24 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
