The page lists upcoming anniversaries (or events) and the means to find more.

This can be useful for personal or communal projects; for example with proofread of the month and featured texts. Texts can be featured during the month of the anniversary or event. With proofreading, it may be desirable to have the work complete by the date of the anniversary; therefore the texts may be scheduled for at least a month before to allow for this.

Timing projects to match anniversaries can be nice although it is by no means necessary. This page is intended to help that process. Some non-anniversary dates and occasions can and should be listed here if they are also relevant to Wikisource. Events do not need to be historical, just relatable to a public domain or freely licensed work.

  • November 2013: Launch of Old Wikisource. (10th anniversary)
  • 2014: John Napier invents logarithms. (400th anniversary)
  • July 2014: Start of World War I. (100th anniversary)
  • September 2014: Start of World War II. (75th anniversary)
  • April 2015: Surrender of Robert E. Lee, beginning the end of the American Civil War. (150th anniversary)
  • June 2015: Battle of Waterloo. (200th anniversary)
  • June 2015: Signing of the first Magna Carta. (800th anniversary)
  • September 2015: Launch of English Wikisource as a standalone project. (10th anniversary)
  • March 2016: Work of Copernicus banned by the Congregation of the Index. (400th anniversary)
  • May 2016: Defeat of the Ottoman fleet by the Venetians at Gallipoli. (600th anniversary)
  • January 2019: Next Public Domain Day in the United States. Works published in 1923 enter the public domain.
