different template format

i think we should use this this version since it lines up more with the template on other projects —unsigned comment by Serprinss (talk) 09:54, 10 August 2021‎ (UTC).

@Serprinss: The current layout is designed to fit well on our Main Page so it's unlikely to be changed until we redesign that, which probably will not be any time soon. --Xover (talk) 11:54, 10 August 2021 (UTC)

@Xover: The suggested template is certainly more modern and probably more accessible (due to the more readable and, well, text-y, text). We could do worse than at least adapting some of that to fit our main page. Especially on mobile, where there's no hover, so the title attributes can't convey a "WTH is this one" hint.

But will need a (small) amount of finagling to get a decent responsive result: {{Sisterprojects No Text}} might be narrower, but it's still too wide for a mobile screen and doesn't reflow. Inductiveload—talk/contribs 13:00, 10 August 2021 (UTC)

@Inductiveload: The current template does reflow (it's a flexbox); and it's hidden on mobile in any case (deliberately). And the current version is more accessible in that it doesn't use a layout table and includes actual alt text. Whether we want a different layout for aesthetic reasons, or text labels for non-a11y reasons, is a different discussion. To me the biggest issue with it is that the project logos are so disparate that they just plain look messy. The No-text variant hides that problem by making the logos uniformly small enough that they're just indistinct colour blobs. At which point, do we even need the logos?

I've been toying with various non-square/non-grid-y layouts for the logos where their disparity won't be so obvious. But just using text labels and a small tag line would also be a reasonable approach. Minimalism being all the rage an’ all. Xover (talk) 14:49, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
