Rabbi Nachman of Breslov[edit]

Hi, I've tried to help with some of the initial organization. I created an author page for Rabbi Nachman based on your initial work; the author page is where you are supposed to list the titles of his works. You can also create another page for Rabbi Nathan's original works if that is appropriate.

I've moved the titles of all the books to simpler ones, there is no need to use subpages for the main title of a work. The author's name need not be in the title, all you need to do is include it in the Header template, and also categorize the book.

I've put Template:Incomplete on the texts, because they really all need a lot of editing and formatting, as well as information on the sources of the translations. It would be great if scans of the translations could be uploaded too. I assume that given the nature of Breslov these can be made available under a free license, but this still needs to be verified and documented. A translation is still copyrighted even if the original is not.

I've put links back and forth from the Hebrew for Author:Nachman of Breslov. Take a look at them in order to learn how to do it.

Did a little tidy up, and have put in place some tidier redirects, and they will be removed in a few months, once the internet has fixed its links. Well, except for this page Breslev/Introduction. Is this a page of a work, or is it a piece of construction? If the former, what is the work that it belongs to, and we will move and align it; if the second, then we will need to put the data elsewhere. Licensing[edit]

Hi, texts that you add be licensed under the license of the project, which there is a link to at the bottom of every page (the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license).

What is unclear to me is the origin of your translations:

  • Are they entirely your own work (in which case the license is automatic and you need not state anything)?
  • Or have you found them somewhere else (in which case the translator would need to give his permission to post them according to the site license)?

As far as how to label such things, there unfortunately isn't any official policy on this (to the best of my knowledge), but the custom has been to credit Wikisource translators (who are recorded on the "history" page), i.e. "translated by Wikisource" as you can see for example in the headers here and here. A great many examples of translations done by Wikisource contributors themselves may be found here, to use as examples. Dovi (talk) 04:38, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, when you upload your own translations to Wikisource, you should not specify anything about licenses or conditions, because you are automatically uploading them according to the free license of the website (CC-CY-SA). This license requires anyone who uses the translation to allow others to use it as well for free. However, it does not exclude commercial use, and you cannot specify non-commercial use according to Wikimedia policy (because such a specification is not considered Open Content). Adding Images to Tales of Rabbi Nachman[edit]

Hello, I tried to add images to the story and uploaded a file called Day 1.jpg but then tried to rename the file to be more specific but it said I do not have permission. ? Thank you, Nissimnanach (talk) 01:22, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Nissimnanach[reply]

these are illustrations to the Tale of the Seven Beggars from Tales of Rabbi Nachman so they should be renamed to something like SevenBeggars-Day 1 etc. thank you And why doesn't the link work even with the current names? I have looked at the images, and added Commons:Template:Information which we will need to further complete especially around author and copyright. The images look reasonably modern, are they part of the original works or are they from a different source? Images may have their own copyright, depending on the contractual arrangement for their inclusion in works.

Hebrew formatting[edit]

I fixed the wrapping problem, there was a specific code in {{hebrewtop}} which made that happen, and it does not seem to be necessary anywhere I found it used, so it is gone now.

As far as enlarging the first word, this would have to be done manually by using {{Dropinitial-Rtl}} like so:


נימוסי הדתות כלם לא ישוו לדתנו.
חכמיהם בדו מלבם נימוסים בשכלם האנושי.
משה עלה למרום וענן לבושו.

However, I don't know if this will appear good on every computer. Wikisource User Group[edit]

Wikisource, the free digital library is moving towards better implementation of book management, proofreading and uploading. All language communities are very important in Wikisource. We would like to propose a Wikisource User Group, which would be a loose, volunteer organization to facilitate outreach and foster technical development, join if you feel like helping out. This would also give a better way to share and improve the tools used in the local Wikisources. You are invited to join the mailing list 'wikisource-l' (English), the IRC channel #wikisource, the facebook page or the Wikisource twitter. As a part of the Google Summer of Code 2013, there are four projects related to Wikisource. To get the best results out of these projects, we would like your comments about them. Moving to the Translation namespace[edit]

I will be moving the Breslov works, and really all of the Jewish original translations, to the Translation namespace, as per instructions at Wikisource:Translations#Wikisource original translations. Also, each page should have {{header}} replaced by {{translation header}}. I see that you are actively editing these pages, and so I want to keep you in the loop. OK, thank you. By the way, do you know of an automated way to make changes across several pages? For example, on the 15 various pages of Translations:Tales of Rabbi Nachman I wanted to search out "--" and replace it with "—". I have been wrestling with curl and ssl in R in order to try to Get or Post web forms in a script but have been unable as per this stackoverflow question. You should look at w:WP:AWB. In the meantime, I can do that for you. Do you need any other similar changes made at the same time?

I see the new images on the page, so it must mean that your cache needs to be cleared.

Re: Template:Translation header[edit]

I believe this question is best asked at the Scriptorium, but I personally think that since anyone can edit the translation at any time, the best option for translator is "Wikisource" or "Wikisource contributors."

Renaming (Moving) a page[edit]

Repairing translations..[edit]

Given your level of expertise in Hebrew is considerably greater than mine I was wondering if you would be interested in attempting to repair the Hebrew works listed as containing formatting glitches:-

Typically, the glitches are the result of unpaired ''' or '', to mark bold or italic portions respectively.

Hi, I found one of them at Translation:Chayey_Moharan where I happened to spot a double quotes "" that should have been quote start italics "''
Is there a button in the editor that helps pinpoint where these unpaireds are located?
