Summary

Description
English: "Annotated Edition of the Authorised Daily Prayer Book with Historical and Explanatory Notes, and Additional Matter, Compiled in Accordance with the Plans of the Rev. S. Singer, by Israel Abrahams, Reader in Rabbinic at the University Of Cambridge, Formerly Senior Tutor at Jews College, London" ׁ(Complete title֝).

Published in 1914, this is the 9th edition of the Authorised Daily Prayer Book of the United Hebrew Congregations of the British Empire, translated by Rabbi Simeon Singer (1846-1906), late Chief Rabbi of the British Empire, a translation unchanged since the 4th edition in 1895. The translation and liturgy was based on the Seder Avodat Yisroel (1868) a critical edition of the liturgical tradition of Ashkenaz Jewry by Seligman Baer (1825-1897). The commentary of Israel Abrahams (1858-1925) includes translations of prayers by Israel Zangwill, Nina Ruth Davis Salaman, and Alice Lucas.

I have included within this document two pages from earlier editions containing Rabbi Simeon Singer's notes to the 4th edition (1895), 6th edition (1900), and 7th edition (1904).
