Page names[edit]

Page names like "HARRISON" and "HUMBOLDT" are too long. Page names longer than four or five characters will overlap into the text when the work is transcluded. --EncycloPetey (talk) 18:03, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a way to check for that across the whole of English Wikisource? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 23:07, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Not that I know of, unfortunately. --EncycloPetey (talk) 00:17, 15 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Question re: Bancroft histories[edit]

Hi, just wanted to check with you re: this edit. It appears to me that is Volume II (if you look at the title page), not a "single vol. edition" of the two-volume work. Is this not a redundant scan of the work immediately before it on the page (which is also from 1888)? -Pete (talk) 00:15, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You seem to be correct, raise it at Proposed Deletions as a duplicate. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 09:36, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. It appears straightforward, so I copied the few proofread pages from the one I started (which was the lower-quality scan), and then added a speedy-delete template: Index:History of Oregon volume 2.djvu -Pete (talk) 20:55, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Clue[edit]

I think that by now, I know my way around an Index: ns page—I may have seen one or two before. I think that I also understand when a file is broken, and can survive without your assistance to tag pages for me. No one is working on the file, and it is labelled as broken. It doesn't need superfluous templates. Thanks. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:48, 22 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, on that basis I have some other changes to make elsewhereShakespeareFan00 (talk) 13:53, 22 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

For what it's worth, I find your quick and thorough processing of new Index: pages extremely helpful. -Pete (talk) 19:12, 22 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

What's the purpose of this template? Does it just swap the second and third arguments around relative to {{rvh}}? Or put another way, if I stress that the docs for {{rvh}} specify the second and third arguments as "text for recto pages" and "text for verso pages"—and not "chapter title" and "work title"—do you still see a need for {{rh/vr}}? --Xover (talk) 08:32, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Xover: It also I think modifies the page number handling, but in general usages could be converted automatically I think.ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 12:36, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Suggestion- Handling for named r and v parameters , See also the test cases for rvh in terms of handling roman numeralled pages.ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 12:39, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Xover: Have checked and the two are effectively the same template, but with swapped logic as you indicate. Script conversion suggested and this one can probably be deprecated. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 12:42, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The Divine Pymander[edit]

Regarding this and this. I had specifically not reproduced these for much the same I reason I do not do so on the works I work on myself (they are printers marks, artefacts of the production of the physical copy, and not an intrinsic part of the work itself), and because they are a needless complication for the (relatively inexperienced) contributor working on that particular text.

And regarding this, that's just incorrect. There's no {{{book}}} magic variable, and that's not actually the title of the work. --Xover (talk) 09:19, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Xover: Hmmm... What do you recomend as an alternative shorthand for, "need to insert the phrase first, second, third here.." ?
Hmm. Routanda r (which is what {{rr}} is) is a printer/typographical choice here, so I am prepared to translate accordingly, I had been doing the long-s though. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 12:49, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I usually go for something obvious like "XXX", which has the advantage of being easy to select by double-clicking, and is easy to pick out of the surrounding text (so you notice that there's something you need to replace). --Xover (talk) 13:18, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hyphenation over page break[edit]

FYI, edits like this are no longer necessary in most cases. See Wikisource:Scriptorium/Archives/2018-09#hyphenated_words. BethNaught (talk) 00:09, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The good news is: this work is now fully transcluded and therefore "complete". It can now be added to the Main Page new texts list. The bad news: I am no longer able to commit to validating the remainder of the text. I saw that Kathleen.wright5 has done some validation so I hope that my stepping back from the task will not result in the work remaining unvalidated indefinitely. —Beleg Tâl (talk) 16:02, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
